virtual note to myself, chomsky's theory seems quite logic to me.
experiments for proving linguistic relativity are still in accordance within the model of generative grammar as he describes it. whorf relates to a totally different kind of grammar than chomsky does, the real linguistic one. the generative grammar should be seen as an abstract structure in human's mind which follows certain functions that are not completely discovered yet. whorf also stated that all the different (linguistic) grammars we know strive for the fulfilling of certain needs, but he didnt describe that further. so there might be a link between the aim of all grammars and the generative grammar, at least in its function. tbc

The so called „BVG-Kundenbüro“, better known as the office where you pay a fine for being charged of not having a valid ticket while using the public transport system, made me think of a documentary on the psychological effects of interior design on customers of the gambling branch, especially in Las Vegas’ casinos. Though I forgot the name of the most influential architect of the casino scene, his most famous theory has been stuck in my mind for quite a long time and the sight of that grey-ish green building in front of me reminded me immediately of the “moth-effect”, an effect, created by carefully selected light spots which are supposed to mesmerize the gambler as much as the light does with the moth.

Apart from the fact, that this highly unattractive piece of monument I was walking into neither induced me to approach it (on a scale from one to ten probably a minus six and I’m not exaggerating) nor made me spread a pair of insect wings, fluttering cheerfully towards the entrance, there was still a slight parallel towards the effect mentioned above. The psychological impact of the BVG-building was to make the greedy Berliner feel guilty, small and once again, guilty. Instead of letting me enter the building on the front-side, I was kindly advised by a sign that clearly denounces me, the greedy Berliner, with its heading “Erhöhtes Beförderungsentgeld” (which basically means “fine”) to walk through the fenced backyard of that complex, provided with several monitoring cameras. But honestly, being asked by asked some homeless and/or drunk men to have sexual interaction with them already, the whole psycho-architectural fuss about paying a fine only resulted, at least for my part, in a weary smile. It was me versus Berlin’s public transport and I guess, the first round was mine.

That increased my confidence right until a friend of mine called to tell me that the employees in that office would never let you go without having paid, even if you faked a mental breakdown. They would just look at you very friendly and demand the money. So I went in, got my waiting number, finally went to the counter and paid to get rid of my gangster image.

The only thing that could light up my mood was the satisfaction people from Germany normally feel when acting out the typical German trait “Schadenfreude”, a certain kind of emotion you get by knowing that the situation of the people surrounding you might be even worse than your own. To me, it’s the only way to bear life in a decent way, you know, without drinking, taking drugs or beating up little kids.

There was this old man, dressed elegantly in a trench coat and a checked scarf around his neck, entering the room with a superior look, exactly that kind of look where your nose holes get exposed to everyone standing near you. “Well, I guess I have to disburse something in here?” He looked around pretentious and perplex together, revealing by means of gesture and mimic that a gentleman like him must indeed feel displaced among us, real criminals. Probably the first time someone got out smiling from the office.

yesterday, there was an elderly guy asking me to come along with me. i didn't refuse so we walked down the mehringdamm and turned left at bergmannstraße. he asked me several questions; i forgot all of them. the only thing that remained in my head is the fact that he was talking without telling anything. an unsubstantial conversation consisting out of my periodical nods and his constant pondering about life and fate, without conveying any existential message that could bring me further in my career as a human being. not even a tiny bit.

however, that incidence has taught me one thing:

Wie man dem Blog womoeglich entnehmen kann, treffe ich gelegentlich auf seltsame Menschen, sogar in Vietnam, habe ich vorhin feststellen muessen.

Die suedostasiatische Siesta liess unser Kleinstaedtchen verstummen, um sich ein wenig von der unerbittlichen Sonne bestrahlen zu lassen.

Leere Strassen. Geschlossene Tueren und Fenster.

Ich kam gerade aus unserem Cafe, da fiel mein Blick auf einen mir unbekannten Mann. Er sass mitten auf der Strasse, trug einen gruenen Hut, wie sie ihn im Krieg aufhatten, einen Blaumann und lange Socken, was mir bei 35 Grad Celsius und 85% Luftfeuchtigkeit als durchaus unpraktisch erschien. Doch das auffaelligste an ihm, waren seine Bewegungen, welche er stets wiederholte, als ob er in einer Dauerschleife fest saesse. Zuerst hob er seinen Arm und klemmte ihn hinter den Kopf, so als wuerde er diesen kratzen wollen. Dann warf er die Kruecke links neben ihm einen Meter vor sich, schwang sein Bein in die Luft, drueckte sich mit dem Armen nach vorne und landete letztendlich wieder neben seiner Kruecke.
Mich faszinierte seine Akkuratheit, wie er diese Abfolge stets beibehielt und sich von nichts und niemandem stoeren liess.
Eine Weile beobachtete ich ihn. Er bemerkte mich nicht.

Wortlos ging ich ins Haus.

Spaeter habe ich mir sagen lassen, dass hier viele Menschen leben, die sich nicht normal verhalten. Sie sind der Anstalt entlaufen.

Hier gefaellt es ihnen.

Der Herr mit dem Soldatenhut ist erst neulich dazugekommen.

Nach einem sehr strapazioesen Flug bin auch ich nun in Vietnam angekommen. Erneut konnte ich viele Veraenderungen beobachten, doch als ich abends auf dem Motorrad sass, erkannte ich meinen Heimatort wieder, so wie er schon immer war. Ich sog den Duft der Seerosen ein, lauschte den Froeschen beim Quaken und konnte mir ein Grinsen wegen der ausbleibenden Kundschaft unserer Konkurrez (wir besitzen ein Cafe) nicht verkneifen.

Kurzum, es gibt wohl Dinge, die immer gleich bleiben, sich gegen die Zeit straeuben. Ob gewollt oder ungewollt, mag ich nicht beurteilen aber ich gebe mich damit ganz zufrieden.

Jedes Mal, wenn ich nach Vietnam fliege, ueberkommt mich eine leichte Welle der Angst. Nein, nicht weil ich mich vor dem Aufenthalt dort fuerchte, sondern wegen etwas recht Banalem, wuerde ich sagen - naemlich dem Flug. Dieser ist einfach schrecklich. Man stelle sich vor, eine Horde Vietnamesen dicht aneinandergedraengt, dabei beladen mit Tonnen an Handgepaeck. Ein riesiges Stimmwirrwarr entsteht dabei und die recht schrillen Stimmen der Frauen geben mir meistens den Rest. Erschoepft vom Krach und vom Tragen des eben genannten Handgepaecks (ja, auch unsere Familie - 20kg), welche mir meine Eltern auferlegt haben, husche ich also auf dem Moskauer Flughafen hin und her, um mir zum einen, einen begehrten Sitzplatz zu ergattern und zum anderen, bestaendig auf die Anzeigetafel zu schauen, um ja nicht unseren Flug zu verpassen.
Ich war mir sicher, dass ich im Flugzeug endlich Erholung finden wuerde, doch weitgefehlt. Ich weiss nicht warum, aber ausgerechnet mein Sitzplatz wurde von der Klimaanlage auserkoren und somit wurde ich fortwaehrend mit kalter Luft angeblasen, trotz -39 Grad Celsius Aussentemperatur. Meine Schwester hingegen, sass im Warmen.
So schlotterte ich also meine restlichen zehn Stunden Flug ab, bis mich die Landung endlich von meinem Elend befreite.

Den restlichen Tag habe ich im Grossen und Ganzen verschlafen.

Bushaltestelle - ich bin wieder zu spät. Ungeduldig verlagere ich mein Gewicht von einem Fuß zum anderen, lediglich um festzustellen, dass die Zeit davon bestimmt nicht schneller verstreicht. Griesgram breitet sich aus.

Ein Klacken.

Mir rollt eine Bierflasche entgegen. Verdutzt hebe ich sie auf und gebe sie dem älteren Herren neben mir. Freundlich lächelt er micht an, bedankt sich, wobei ich bemerke, dass er eine angenehme Stimme besitzt, was mich erneut in ein geistiges Chaos versetzt. Plötzlich ranken sich allerlei Geschichten um diesen Mann und ich beginne, mir ein geradezu fantastisches Bild von ihm zu malen.
Womöglich ist er eine von jenen melancholischen Personen, wie sie in etlichen Filmen und Romanen portraitiert werden. Allein, unfreiwillig abseitsstehend von unserer Gesellschaft und natürlich hat er seine große Liebe aufgrund eines dramatischen Schicksalsschlages verloren. Ja, das scheint doch eine äußerst interessante Persönlichkeit zu sein. Zufrieden spitze ich meine Lippen und ein breites Grinsen schmückt für einige Sekunden mein Gesicht.
Doch dann, wie aus dem Nichts, holt meine Romanfigur einen rohen Hühnerschenkel aus seinem Rucksack und fängt an, ganz ungeniert und voller Genuss daran zu knabbern.
Verdutzt und peinlich berührt schaue ich weg. Ich frage mich, was einen Menschen wohl dazu bewegen mag, etwas derartiges zu verzehren. Sofort ziehen Wörter wie "Salmonellen", "Hund" und "roh" in meinen Kopf ein. Sie beziehen dort ihre Plätze und dekorieren fantasievoll meine Gedankenwelt.
Da kommt auch schon der Bus. Endlich. Ich steige ein, spüre die Kälte der klimatisierten Luft, fühle, dass ich jetzt woanders bin. Verstohlen blicke ich aus dem Fenster. Die Straße, in der ich wohne, zieht an mir vorbei.
Ich sehe den Mann nicht mehr.

Kings of Leon in der O2-Arena. Live sind sie sooo toll und wäre ich nicht krank gewesen, hätte ich lauthals mitgejohlt.

Nach einem kleinen Snack auf der Terasse ging es auch schon in die Halle. Die Vorband [Neo oder so] stimmte mich mit skandinavisch-melancholischen Klängen schon mal ins Konzert-Feeling ein und etwa eine Stunde später kamen sie endlich, die vier attraktiven Amerikaner.

Zuvor musste ich noch den Schock überwinden, den mir mein ehemaliger Erdkundelehrer mit seiner Freundin versetzte...doch die kratzig rauchige Stimme des Sängers ließ alles Übel vergessen.

Jedesmal wenn ich mit meiner liebenswerten Nani unterwegs bin, stolpern wir unweigerlich aber dennoch positiv überrascht in irgendeine witzige Begebenheit hinein.

So auch gestern.

Unser Ziel war die "Trendmafia", dieses Mal in Kreuzberg stationiert. Kam mir ganz gelegen, ich wollte schon immer in Kreuzberg meiner Lieblingsbeschäftigung, dem Rumpeilen, frönen. Nachdem wir also ein wenig Bargeld auf dieser Veranstaltung hinterlassen hatten, ging es direkt zum Hermannplatz, schließlich mussten unsre Mägen für dieser abenteuerliche Tour gewappnet sein. [Die Pizzen sind dort großartig. Außerdem steht da eine punkige Französin hinter dem Tresen, sehr sympathisch.]

Satt und zufrieden konnte es also weitergehen. Ein Wink des Schicksals (oder auch recht plump ausgedrückt, ein Kinoplakat) machte uns auf den Volkspark Kreuzberg aufmerksam. Wirklich hübsch, ab und an wurden wir zwar von einigen Dealern angesprochen aber das hinderte uns nicht daran, unseren Spaziergang fortzusetzen.

Elektronische Beats waren plötzlich zu hören. Wir folgten der Klangspur und staunten nicht schlecht, als sich vor unseren Augen eine kleine aber feine Partykulisse erstreckte:
